Sorry! I guess I'm a novice at this in comparison to others. I only
have 1027 individual pedigree web pages all created in the same folder.
Maybe I'll have 207,000 pages some day! That's incredible!

Just remember -- Legacy builds web pages using RINs for page numbering,
but
does not do so sequentially. If you use multiple directories building
the
pages and have re-numbered, or re-used RINs in your family file, then
there
is no guarantee that any given page will end up in the same folder it
was in
the first time. All pages linking to that page will also have changed.
The
change or addition of one RIN can cause a cascade change in all
subsequent
files and folders.

This is obviously a concern only if you have a large file. My current
build
runs to 207,000 pages in 110 folders. In a test, deleting out three
people
and re-using the RINs produced changes to more than 3,700 pages.

I would like the same ability too. Uploading does take a long time even
with FTP.

However, there is one thing that you can do. But I believe that this
depends upon which web page style you are creating. I create "pedigree"
styles. Even though only one page has changed, you can create all of
the ones in your set as you normally do. As long as you know which
person has updated information, then you can just upload that one
person's page since there is a one-to-one relationship between people
and pages. The name of the file (for example, 1.html) refers to the
person's number in your Legacy database. If it's a new person, then
it's a new page in sequential number order and can easily be found.

Likewise, the surname and source lists are in separate files and can be
easily uploaded individually. Same with the names lists - 1 file per
letter of the alphabet for surnames.

Is there any way the database residing within Legacy 5 can be accessed
in
order to create a dynamic web page? I've been looking at GED to HTML
programs, such as PhpGedView and DftCom2, but I don't like the way the
output is formatted.

My complaint with using the Legacy Family Tree web output is the
difficulty
encountered when an update is required. It generates a big bunch of
html
files, and they all have to be regenerated and uploaded. The uploading
is
a pain because there are so many files.

Anyone have any ideas around this? Thanks.

Gene
