Tagging Options

Enable Tagging Options
You can tag individuals and marriages to mark them for various reasons. For
example, you might want to tag some people to be included in a report, or
tag some individuals who you are currently doing research on so you can find
them quickly when you get more information. There are nine tags you can use
for each individual and for each marriage. (The Standard Edition has only
three tags.) This lets you use different tags for different purposes.
Perhaps you want to export all individuals with tag #3, print an Ancestor
report for all tag #2 people and use tag #1 for names you are currently
working on.

If you do not want to use the tagging option in Legacy, you can turn it off
by unchecking the box. (See Advanced Tagging for more information on how to
use this powerful feature.)

Basically, Tags allow you to "mark" a person for some reason. If you wanted,
you could use Tags to mark everyone who has passed of hereditary disease,
mark those you want to get a death certificate for, mark those who just had
children to remind you to get more information, or, if you have a person
whose ancestors you do not want to print in reports, you can tag them. You
could tag those people you have no cause of death information on to help you
keep a list of people you want information on. Tagging can get as complex or
as simple as the user wants, Legacy used to have just 3, and we Legacy users
pleaded for more. Even if Millennia gave us 900 tags to work with, someone,
somewhere would want more.

Tags help you sort. Tags help you find common denominators. I use tags to
tell my Reports which people to print- sometimes there are reports for whom
I do not want the recipient to see everyone.

Have you seen the 1, 2, 3 at the top of husband and wife? Those are the 1,
2, 3, numbers for tags. Some of us want ALL 9 tags to show, but I have to
admit Legacy is running out of screen real estate.

I am not doing good service to Tagging. Geoff Rasmussen has done a better
job and has a Tagging made easy CD on Millennia's website. It is wonderful.
I recommend it.
