I've now upgraded to Reader 6.0.3, and am still unable to read pdf files created with the latest Legacy build. Files created on 12 December (previous build) read just fine. I've also done a cold reboot in case of any system problem, and no change. No, I'm not using anything other than the default fonts.

A look at "old" (generated December 2004) pdf file with a text editor shows a font Arial, Bold statement. Newly generated pdf file has Font << >> on one line. I don't know what is supposed to end up in the file, but this sure looks like it *could* indeed have an undefined or blank font. And the error message is some variant of "font not set".

By the way, newly generated PDF files also will *not* read in Acrobat Reader 3.0, which is still on my laptop. So it's not likely a system problem.

I may be *very* glad that I normally run my laptop (with my master data file) one or more builds of Legacy *behind* the desktop, which always has a copy of the data file. The 26 Oct 2004 build still on it *does* produce OK PDF files. They're even readable in Reader 3.0.

Subject: [LegacyUG] *Major* problem re PDF files

Hi all,

I am not able to view pdf files created with the latest build of Legacy. Acrobat Reader 5.0.1 won't read them. Acrobat Reader 6.0 won't read them (just spent over an hour waiting for it to download). I am Windows 98SE so Acrobat Reader 7.0 is not a possibility. Besides, I expect to send these to people who won't necessarily have 7.0.

Error message is something about font not set. I tried 4 different reports (Ancestor chart, Ancestor (formerly Ahnantafel) report, descendant report, and pedigree chart). Same on all.

I'd hoped to send off an interim report to a cousin - I guess it will have to wait.
