I can't speak for all Irish with surnames starting with Mc..., but I have never personally seen a Mc name used with a following space by people named Mc...
This was a big problem to me in searching census and other indexes until I realized that many people not familiar with Irish surnames automatically add the space. I found lots of relatives when I put a space after the MC in the index search window. I think Legacy has a good global search and replace, although I have never tried to use it . . .
