Can I endorse John's comments, and suggest further that data should be kept on a separate partition to programmes? It's a bit like suggesting that food should be in a separate cupboard to saucepans, where cupboards are partitions. Details of this are probably best suited to off-list mails, but I'd be happy to help anyone concerned.

Many times have I given thanks when my OS has played up that my data was "safe" in another partition. Not proof against everything, of course (like hard drive failure, corrupt files or I imagine viruses) but much safer than in the standard "C:\My Documents" folder.
