Ruth,
I believe that name corrections can only be done for the 1930 census. There is a provision for corrections or alternate names to be submitted. I'm sorry I can't tell you the exact way to do it, since I currently am not subscribed to Ancestry.com and can't view the census data.
Whatever you submit in the form that they provide will be made available online, so be forewarned (I wasn't). It takes a month or so for them to make your correction available, and I wasn't notified when it was done. And it isn't technically a correction, since their original and erroneous transcription remains available.
To see an example, search for the surname Bondzinski in Illinois. The last 4 records are actually transcribed as Bondzinksi (with the "sk" transposed as "ks", but you will find them because of the changes that were submitted. Clicking on the icon by each name shows exactly what information was given to them.
Bob

I'm sorry that I missed this, but how do you inform ancestry.com that there
is a spelling error?
Ruth A. Nerud [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I was not aware that Ancestry would make corrections if notified and would
inform you when done.
