Hi Steve,
You'll find heaps on this in the list archives.

I add Census as an event and of course as a Source.
I set the household up on the Source Clipboard with Master Source - the Census year and the household details and reference in the Source Detail and Source Detail Text.
I don't change this by one space or full stop when adding it to source name or birthplace or census event or occupation - then it only prints once in a report.

I add a Census event for everyone found so that I can see on the Legacy screen whether I've found them for all relevant censuses. However, I don't always print the census data in report. You can make the whole event Private with just a tick in the Event Definition.

I add the household transcription only to head of household or to people living away from family. I add other notes - like to note the variation in age given or name spelling - for individuals as appropriate.
In description field - I leave it blank for head of household but add the head and relationship to head for everyone else.
I've adjusted the Event Sentence Definitions so they read properly with this data entry.

Where you add the full address is up to you. I put it in locations as I'm not bound by the four field location entry that some are and I don't like the repetition you get when you use the "proper" address field. The four field thing is irrelevant for most of my locations. I can group my locations for town easily enough with a right to left sort in the location list as I am consistent in entering locations from smallest unit to country.

Hi All

I have been using Legacy for a couple of months now, and following this list. Which I have found very useful.

I may regret asking this question as I may have to change my 500+ entries.

Following on from Rob's comments about storing addresses. I wondered if there is a better way of storing Census data than using the events. Ideally the addresses would be formatted, i.e. special place for Town, County etc. But currently I have been using the Place field of the event. With Census as the event, the year in the date field and relationship and occupation in the Description field.

I hope you are not going to tell me that this is in the tutorial, as an ex IT professional I hate reading manuals etc. (Contradictory or what?)

Thanks

Steve
