It won't surprise me if I don't fully understand your problem. But hopefully my examples helps.
Examples: I am my mother's son, but my mother is not my son. I am my wife's spouse and she is also mine, but while I am my wife's husband, she is not my husband. I am my sister's sibling and she is also mine, but while she is my sister, I am not her's.
When two people are at the same level on the family tree, their relationship are probably the same, excluding sex differences. When the two people are at different levels on the tree, their relationships are not the same.

26 March build - the specific problem I have with the relationship calculator: My great-grandfather had a 1/2 brother - the mother of this half-brother is not known at this point, so by *my* standards I do not enter her. If I place this half-great-granduncle on the left in the Rel. Calc., and myself on the right, the relationship is correct (half-great-granduncle) and shows my great-great-grandfather as the common ancestor. If I swap the two individuals, the relationship shown is that of 1st cousin 3 times removed, and the common ancestor(s) are my great-great-great-grandparents. Certainly the calculator should give the same descent path and common ancestors in both cases.
Note: this is *not* the exact same problem as reported by E. Rodier. This is *not* a result of something bad in my data. This is *not* an invitation to discuss (again) whether I should enter underscores or "unknown" or something else for the mother's name - I choose not to do so and the calculator should work anyway.
This half-great-granduncle, *and* his descendants, also do not get *any* relationship set to me with the "set relationships" tool.

Relationship problem shows in the March 26 build (online update) of Legacy 5 using Asa Brown's family with a made-up second spouse. Deleted USR files and ran File Maintenance several times, restarted Legacy 5. Using WinXP Pro with online updates.
