One way to overcome this problem was suggested by someone on this list (sorry I can't remember who.) Change the sentence wording on the report (under 'Wording' tab) to just Children or Child.

Pity, as Legacy lets you create any status label you want to describe relationships - even offers a few of its own - but only honours "Unmarried" in the "Children of this ...." sentence.
