Through ignorance, I have entered my data without a thought to using the Living Person indicator.  I somehow thought that Legacy took care of it completely and it was automatic using the Option/Customise/Data Entry/ Presumed Dead settings. But without a birth or death date how could it!

So, I needed to find a way of resolving the issue.  I basically used the Index View and customised the columns so that I added the Living indicator.  I then added the Marriage: Date & Place column.  I looked for "Yes" in the living column and a date in the Marriage date before 1911 and changed the indicator to "No" for each record found.

This took care of married persons but not single persons.  If I found that a living persons mother was born prior to 1860 then I made the assumption that the child must be deceased.

I still have many records to check and it occurred to me that Legacy could be more helpful.

Firstly, in the Index View it would be a nice feature if All columns could be sorted rather than just those available currently.  At least I could then sort the living.  My second observation was that there must be some logic that can deduce whether a person is living if the mother's age is known and Legacy ought to validate this on entry.

I quite expect that there is already a simpler method of doing this editing and I would be grateful for any advice before I start editing the remaining 4000 records.
