Hi Leon,
To do this - aren't you accessing the Rolodex in different places?

I reserve the one on the Individual's Information Screen (or accessed on Family View) to a living person's current address. I also enter here their preferred name for Name Tags.

The one on the Marriage Information Screen is for the address of the marriage.
Birth address under the plus at the end of the Birth line.
Source repository address on Repository Tab of Master Source.
Event entry screen also has a Rolodex for the address related to this event.
etc

It's a little confusing that sometimes there is a Rolodex for address and sometimes other ways to access the Address dialogue.

Cheers,
Cathy

Using the Rolodex just for living people could be a best practice that you
want to follow. Personally, I use it for much more than just living people.
As examples,

1. Location of a Source repository
2. Location of a Church (where married)
3. Location of a Cemetery
4. Location of a Hospital

So, in general, I use the Rolodex for the following:
1. People's address (living)
2. Locations - almost any type

The address/Rolodex was probably originally developed and used to print Name
Tags for family reunions or gatherings. In that case, you would only use it
for living people.

Remember in almost any genealogy software, you can use the basic features
for other things.

As an example, Legacy has a Calendar feature (Deluxe version I believe)
which most people would use for living people's birth & marriage dates of
the immediate family as an annual calendar. You can add pictures, etc to
the calendar.
I also like to have the major Holidays on my calendar. You can create a
separate Legacy database for just the holidays as follows:
1. Use then use the field "Given name" for the Holiday -- New Year's
Day
2. Use then use the field "Birth date" for the Holiday date - January
1, 2005
That is all of the data you enter for each Holiday date and your data base
is a Holiday Database.

You can then merge this Holiday database with the database that has the
people you want to include on your calendar and then print your calendar.
My merged database would probably be only about 20 people (immediate family)
plus the holiday entry's.

In the Holiday example, I have use the fields of the Legacy database for
something completely different than it was designed for - but it is very
useful in this case.

Bottom line, there are many ways to use various parts of Legacy -- that's
one of the nice things about Legacy -- Flexibility.

Hello Leon, Brendan. Margaret, Rob, Debbie Thank you all for discussing this
topic with me.

I have just been looking at the training videos and Geoff Rasmussen states
The address Rolodex if for recording living people !
So I was a little confused by this.
When one looks at the Sample family file for ASA Clarke BROWN that comes
with Legacy there is no mention of the exact address just general locations.

OR am I missing something again
Regards
John
