Deleting the legacy.lng file before re-doing the update was the key here,
Mike.   Without deleting that, the error couldn't be fixed.

Frequently we see errors relative to a corrupt file and I instruct the user
to delete that file - sometimes a reinstall is in order, sometimes not, but
deleting the file and starting fresh with it 99.9% of the time solves the
problem.

Well.. absolutely nothing was wrong, it seems!

Just downloaded the Full Set-Up again and followed Sherrys' suggestion about
deleting the .lng file. This time it worked! The previous time it didn't. Go
figure!

Thanks for bearing with me whilst this ageing brain sorted itself out. I
will run a byte-for-byte compare of the two downloads I've now got, to see
if there are any differences that might possibly account for the problems I
was experiencing.
