No one would want to carry a 1200 page book to the doctors office. Honestly we receive a bunch of praise for the Legacy User's Guide and I think Dave has done a great job with it. I remember a magazine reviewer who asked for a copy of Legacy which we sent to him. I got a phone call from him while still on his vacation telling me that it ruined his vacation. He received Legacy just before he left on a family vacation. He said he read the entire book from cover to cover and said the more he read the more excited he was to get home to actually try Legacy and that he just had to call me to talk about it. Others have told me how much they love the book and wish they would have taken the time to read it sooner. Legacy is simple to use and get started with so people think the book is not needed. They may use Legacy for a year or two before ever opening the book but once they do they learn a bunch and always wish they would have read it sooner. I usually recommend to people to read the last chapter first, the one called Tips and Tricks.
I have to agree with others about the training CDs. Geoff is the greatest and has done such a great job with the training CDs. Not only does he teach you how to get the most out of Legacy, you learn how to do genealogy using Legacy. Your research will never be the same. If I had to pick between the book or the training CDs (videos) I'd highly recommend the training CDs.
Thanks

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Uders Manual
Before I comment about the manual, I want to say that I think Legacy is the best gen program available and that Ken McGinnis is a great guy. I think the manual is the pits. Their philosophy is that "HELP" should be the primary source of information. Unless they have changed the manual, there aare items in it where they do a complete copout and refer you to "HELP" for the information. I think a manual should be totally self sufficient so that you can take it to the doctors office or barber shop to study while you wait. I havenn't been able to determine what use the manual is at all when parts of it aren't even written. If you want a manual, I'll be glad to send you mine FREE. Incidentally, the video tape is helpful but not all that great either. HELP and the LUG are best. And when all else fails try a gal in Australia (Cathy - I've lost her address but she's on the lists frequently).
