There has to be more to it than simply clicking Cancel. Something I
noticed yesterday, too, and just played with more today:
If you add a piece of vital data while editing an Individual, let's
say a death date, and source it, but click "Cancel" instead of "Save",
Legacy discards the death date, BUT it saves the source, and it
changes the Modified date. The same thing happens if you delete a
source and click Cancel; the source REMAINS deleted and the modified
date has been changed. This happens if you open the source window or
simply do a clipboard paste [-] of the source from memory while your
cursor is in the death date area, for example.
