Ken, I hate to be a stickler about off-topic posts but I do get complaints from listers when the topics stray from Legacy. Etiquette guideline #5 reads
"Please keep to the topic of Legacy and its add-on programs. Please don't send jokes, advertisements, political messages, religious opinion, etc." Rootsweb has a lot of mailing lists covering different topics and there are several newsgroups which discuss genealogy methods, etc. Of course (to put this *on* topic), there are a lot of search options available in Legacy under the Internet > Search for Current Person menu item. If this list were slow, I wouldn't worry about it, but the list has been *very* busy and off-topic posts give the staff and beta testers who monitor the list a lot of stuff to wade through, making it hard for us to help the users who are trying to report bugs or figure out how to do something in Legacy. When I started doing research again on my family history, one of the first things I did was realize I needed a way to organize and document the information I was searching for. But as a budding genealogist, I have had more questions than answers on how to find the information I am looking for. The fact that there are so many genuinely helpful users of your wonderful product and that so many of them share so freely on this list is a major benefit of using Legacy. If the conversation was about why there are so few honey bees in the orchard this year, that would probably be off topic. But asking questions of the community of users about how to find the information we are seeking when we use your product is pretty close to the mark in my opinion. The signature at the bottom of your messages says "We are changing the world of genealogy!" Hopefully, that doesn't mean you want to limit it to the topics you feel are appropriate. However, I understand this is your listserve, and if you feel the thread is inappropriate, so be it. Is there a more suitable place on the web where these questions could be posed?
