Hi Jan
I am a very stubborn Aquarius, oldest child of 9 and boy am I
opinionated and stubborn. My first program was PAF then Brother's keeper,
then Generations then I got solidly into Family Tree Maker. In Mar 2000, my
cousin put LEGACY on my computer which I used enough to find out that it
was awesome at merging. Also bought Family Origins, then Roots Magic. Then
one month FTM crashed on me twice, so, I decided to give LEGACY my acid
test.....I have lived in a wheelchair since Oct 1998 from a massive stroke,
and now type with my right hand only. Think that I have entered over 6,000
names since Oct 2004. MY ACID test was to enter 40 names into LEGACY. that
was 26 Apr 2002. Never went back to anything from that point on. My next
discovery was the location list. My most recent discovery was the Master
Address list. After I discovered it in March or April I began to collect
place of burial information and happily entered the stuff that I have found
into the address list. But, probably my greatest discovery was the keyboard
shortcuts, hit keys "E" then "M" and you can edit the marriage.Hit key "E"
then "H" and you can edit the husband. All very simple and intuitive. I am
numbered 2 in my data base and by hitting "G" then 2, I am instantly at
myself. and in family view if you want to edit child 6 jus hit key "C" and
then 6.also there are "F" keys that you can use to edit the source, edit the
notes or do a spell check
I am not aware of another family tree program that has a mailing list
where you can get all of your genealogy program questions answered like you
can here.
Every time I read complaints about the way LEGACY makes reports that are
not as good as another genealogy program truthfully I wonder what they are
complaining about, Often I am asked for family tree data and I have no
complaints about the way that LEGACY does it.
Trust me, just enter 40 persons and their data into LEGACY, that should
let you know.
It all breaks down into a single word ENJOY
