Linda, can you write to the CD?
Just to briefly go over the basics, you cannot just copy files to a CD
the same way you do to a Floppy or hard disk. You need to have
special CD writing software. With Windoze XP there is now a function
that will also write to CD's without any extra software. As ususal for
M'$oft, it's not anywhere near as thorough as you can get from others,
such as Roxio or Nero, but it will do simple CD-Writing.
I use Nero on my 'puter. I has a verification phase to verify that
what's written on the CD matches what you told it to write. Then you
have to "close" the CD or the session on the CD in order to read it back
on another machine.
Please write back and tell me how you are writing the CD.
Another thing to check is if the CD Drive in your laptop can read
other CDs.
Also please write back and tell me more details about how you
are trying to open the CD. After you've written it, on your desktop,
can you open it in Windoze Explorer and see the files there on your
desktop? Should be able to do that!
Anyway drop me a line and let me know the details of what I asked
above. Probably best to do this off list though since I don't think this
is really a Legacy thing.
