Gary, Thanks for your response it sent me searching for an answer. I think the process you describeis true but, according to Mark D.Heber, "Ancestral Trails" The date the birth was reported detemines the quarterly index in which it appears and this may be weeks after a birth. I like June's suggestion of using Jan-Mar 1855 Karen
>Karen, >I believe that the way the BMD index register works is that all >registrations (from Churches, Courts, etc.) within a District are gathered >up after the end of the quarter and compiled into an index for that >particular District. >Late registrations do seem to be handled differently, some seem to go into the quarter when >the actual registration was made while others have been added (often hand written) at the >>bottom of the applicable index page of the quarter in which the BMD occurred. In >earlier years many BMDs were never registered which just add to the fun. >Gary Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
