You might want to download IrfanView. That program is free and will read all of the images I've downloaded from any where, including the *.SID format Ancestry has used. The URL is http://www.irfanview.com/

Why do you say that you "certainly would never put the actual image in a report"? A transcription can often be wrong and having an actual copy of that portion of the census record would be available for a re-look, wouldn't it?
