I do have Tree Draw (ver 2.22) but its performance hasn't encouraged me to go for version 3 yet. Perhaps Brendan has a view on this?

I do agree that many programs become bloated with non-essential features and in that sense, I can live with the Legacy model of using/suggesting separate programs to do stuff. However, I think a charting module should be part and parcel of every Genealogy program and more than that - such a charting module should be fully integrated with the database so that clicking on a box in the chart would immediately access and allow editing for all data for that individual. Some programs do this and I think it is a great paradigm.

I do find a tendency amongst long experienced genealogists to deprecate charts - as if there were something noble about working with all that text data. I have a contrary view inasmuch I find charts an essential feature of :-

1. Presenting one's work to others - not least to get them to part with information!! I love it when a relative says " I did not know that so and so were related like that, I have some old papers in the attic that have his/her/their name in them, would you like them?" 2. So many of my ancestors seemed to take the same or similar names, I just cannot separate them in my head and I need a picture to see if this Duncan Campbell is related to that Duncan Campbell etc.

So - I am still looking for good charting software but basically feel that Legacy should implement something better with version 6. If it could do what I have suggested it should it would be worth $100 easily to me - I have spent more than that on useless third party software!
