Bill and LUGers,

In my case Legacy is okay after a lockup.
No blank screen

I have 3 PCs, 2 w/ MS Windows XP Home and a 5 year old w/ ME.
The older (1 yr old) XP has the lockup problem. The other 2 pcs can
stay up much longer before acting up. The 'bad' pc is a desktop
w/ 2.8GHz processor. The good XP is a notebook w/ 1.3GHz
processor. The notebook starts up much faster. Its Welcome splash
screen stays up only for a second or 2, while the 'bad' pc's stays
up for a minute or more. This "bad" pc also fails when attempting
large downloads. The notebook does large downloads just fine,
whether connected directly to router or wifi. There is something
bad in the background, but what it is, I don't know.

Zone Alarm Pro is installed on the desktop. Zone Alarm (free version)
is installed on the other 2.

I have 2 anti spy ware programs, Ad-Aware and SpyBot. They haven't
found the cause. Some anti spy ware companys have had agreements
with some ad ware companys, not to find their programs.

I have Norton System Works Pro and run it allot. No luck.
I think I should try an online virus checker. I may have
something that got by Norton.

The startup group has been weeded. see
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

I use Registry First Aid. Again no luck, but it does show a lot more
bad registry entries than it shows on the other 2 pcs. But it cautions
against removing them. I am not expert enough to experiment here.

I followed some of the advice given in www.blackviper.com
pertaining on disabling services I don't use. Still no luck.
The guy is a gamer, very sharp, likes his pc to run fast and
efficiently, very approved by many gurus.

I am not sure what I will do next. I may do a total operating
system restore. That should get me back to normal, but backing
up and restoring will take time. Or I may install a Linux
operating system, since I have been told that Legacy works
inside Win4Lin. These are both drastic solutions, but
I think I will have to bite the bullet soon.

Any help will be appreciated.

I need some help-- My computer locked up (This happaned after the program was sitting idol for 6 hours) I shut down the computer and reboothed it. I opened up Legacy . My program now does not bring up the preferred person on the screen. It's totally blank. I need to go down to the bookmark tags at the bottom of the screen so I can see any thing on the sceen. Now my questions.

1.) Why is this happening?

2.) How can I preset the program so the program bring up my preferred ancestor? going back to options after the two time took care of the opening option with a starting individual. But, why did it take two times?

I'm glad I backed up on the 1st of the month.
