If you use outlook, it is under 'tool', then 'options', then 'email options' then 'tracking options'.
Uncheck request 'read receipt' It is fine to use this for individual mail but not all mail you send, especially when you send it to mailing lists...hundreds to thousands of people get your request for a read receipt.
