If you do had near etc in the Location field, you don't have to wade through them in the Master Location list - you can sort without prepositions - see checkbox on the sort.

I don't use this much but I would regard "near Wichita Falls" and "Wichita Falls" as two different locations - just as Folke, Dorset and North Wootton, Dorset are two different locations even though they're less than a mile apart.
