I have to disagree with you Sherry,

It would not require a change in the database structure. Legacy already
store dates in 2 formats. A "short" one and one more "complete" that
contains all the information about the date ( about, between, circa
etc..., even all the text that makes a date "unrecognized"). It should
be "fairly simple" to add Alpha character date search if the "complete"
date was used when doing a date search.
