Hi Everyone
It seems that there is a lot of talk about whether the LUG is the appropriate
place to discuss new features.

Personally it doesn’t both me to read about other features that users would
like to see, sometimes we can combine ideas and come up with a better feature
or implementation of it, and in some cases we can help each other come up with
temporary solutions to our problems. However, it does seem to me that the most
appropriate way to request the feature is to contact Legacy directly (I do this
through Sherry) so that it is officially recorded as a request. Quite often
when I do this, I am told that the feature is a) already requested; or b) is
being worked on.

I don’t think that this LUG should be used to bash Legacy. Most of us love
Legacy and have no desire to switch to something else (which is why we keep
requesting that Legacy implement “our” features), me included. It is
off-putting to new users or potential users to hear all our complaints, which
in the scheme of things, are usually quite minor.

It should be recognized that Millennia is a small company and can’t always keep
us with our requests. It is not always easy to add the features we request.
They have to figure out the best implementation, code it and then go through a
long testing process to make sure nothing else is going to break (a problem
that seems to happen frequently with other genealogy programs, if you lurk in
their forums). I have been lurking for quite a while in a competitor's forum
(possibly Legacy's main competitor), as I have considered switching because “I
can’t wait”. I have to report that they seem to have more complaints about
major bugs with their current functionality (such as actually losing data) and
they do not receive updates/fixes anywhere near as frequently as we do. It has
really put me off to the point that I realize how lucky we are in the fact that
at least what we have in terms of functionality works very well and that if
there are any serious bugs, at least those I have reported have been fixed next
release.

I am excited to see the new version 6 features (which I assume won't be
available on the web site until after the Genealogy Show - as they will be busy
until then), even though I already know that my two biggest feature requests
(real footnotes/endnotes, witnesses) have not been included yet. According to
EOGN, there are some great new features that I can already see that I would use.

Thanks for listening to my 2 cents worth...
