Thank you for your help. I was able to find the link in the archives and have now downloaded and reinstalled Legacy vs 5.0. I'm so disappointed I can't use vs 6.0 as I really liked the new features. I don't think I will be upgrading my memory in view of the fact that people with twice the memory I have are also having problems. I don't want to change my operating system as I had Win98 installed to suit my hardware and software. Other than the new Legacy, it works well for me. Thank you to all who tried to help with advice.
Just a caution for anyone else doing the same - when I tried to copy my usr files into the newly installed vs 5.0, it wouldn't work. I think some of them must have been updated when I installed vs 6.0. Fortunately, in my case I'd backed up my user files last year, so I was able to copy the backed up files. I would advise if you're transferring usr files to a vs 5.0 folder, you do it one at a time and test that Legacy works between each transfer. If anyone else wants to download the latest vs 5.0 and reinstall the link is: Download Full Setup (15 MB) http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Download/Legacy5/sng1/Legacy5Setup.exe Password: family One last comment. I just phoned my friendly repair man and spoke to him about the problem and his advice was that installing more memory wouldn't help. He felt that the new version was probably much more suited to XP, rather than Win 98SP.
