Patricia

I believe in parties as long as you have a designated driver....with my
current computer(AMD 3400 2 GIGS RAM) and a cable connection(broadband) I
downloaded and merge of both of Ed files [the whole project] took under ten
minutes; including file check/repair between each download.

So if you can swing to cost of the party...you will have much more time for
other things.

Regards
Henry
p.s. Party favors include a pretty new O.S, fast car to go to party(64 bit
processor), full of super octane fuel(at least 2 gigs), Hee Hee!

What driver files - please explain in detail what and where and how. I'm
running W98SE with heaps of spare drive memory and 245 RAM. It’s not an
old computer. I'm wondering if what you did will help me, but I don’t
know much about drivers and need detailed instructions.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] First problems with Legacy 6.0

I have been watching this memory issue with interest since my
computer is very old (it will be 9 later this month, maybe I
should have a party for it). When I first installed Legacy 6 it
would not run at all - every time I would get a page fault error
in a DLL file associated with my obsolete 3dfx Voodoo 3 2000
video card. Today I downloaded and installed a new version of the
driver files and have now successfully installed and am running
Legacy 6 which is doing an auto merge on the file that Ed
Barnard has had the troubles with (see the intellishare thread).
I also have Mozilla open with both the browser and the inbox open
as I prepare this message. I also have Mailwasher open which I
use to check my inbox on my ISP before downloading my messages. I
use it to pre-screen for spam and also to decide which of the
many messages coming in on this mailing list I will download and
keep.

So far there are no problems with Legacy, In the last half hour
or so it has merged a little over 1000 of the 4012 individuals in
the Ed Barnard file.

Okay here are the specs:

Pentium 150 Mhz (not even the MMX version)
RAM 96 Meg (I tried to upgrade to 128 without success even though
the motherboard manual says it is possible)
Disc Drives
C: 2 Gig with Windows and my basic programs installed
D: 6 Gig with my data files, some programs and the Windows Swap
file (virtual memory) set to 1 Gig min - 1 Gig max. I was told
one time that windows works slightly faster if it does not have
to resize the swap file as needed and I need every bit of extra
speed I can tweak out of this machine.
Video Card: 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI (my motherboard predates AGP)
with 16 Meg of ram.
OS Windows 98 Second Edition Build 4.10.2222 A

Patricia, you have never clearly said whether you are using WIN
98 or 98SE. To find out which right click on the My Computer Icon
and select properties and on the general tab you should see the
version and build info. That is how I found out the version and
build number above.

I bought the Legacy Deluxe upgrade knowing full well that my
computer does not really have the speed or memory required and I
know the Legacy system requirements says 128 Meg is needed and
that if you have less Legacy will be slow. I will accept that
limitation as long a Legacy does not crash any more often than
any other program I run.

You mentioned that you liked to keep Legacy open along with Word
so I just opened a Word Document to add to the mix of software
above. Legacy is still happily crunching away on the merge. It
has now reached 2090 of 4012 in the time I have been composing
this message.
