I do not think you can search directly for "Jane Jones" unless YOU have entered that as an alternate name for her as a result of her marriage. Remember her name as stored in Legacy is Jane Smith. I remember Family Tree Maker used to have an option for using the husbands surname for a wife but I think that was only for listings in reports etc. She was still stored in the data base under her maiden name and that was how you had to search for her.

To simplify the search for a Jane Smith who married a Fred Jones I would use the marriage list. In that screen you can search for either gender spouse and see a list of their spouses. If you cannot find a Jane Smith with a husband Fred Jones you could look for Fred Jones and see what wives he/they had.
