Along a similar line, I am still hoping we can get the short location name to appear correctly on the "Edit Event" screen, so that I can see the event sentence as it will actually read or a report or web site. This was one of those last bugs in v5 that didn't have time to get corrected before the release.

I'm just sending this reminder to make sure the powers that be have not overlooked this one by accident!

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] V6: Location names problem

Hi John,

I sent a similar bug report to Legacy Support. Sherry is checking it out.

The problem I saw with locations with the Family Report and the Individual Report had to do with the Location Index for those reports.

Note: It does NOT mess with the Master Location List, only the display of the long-name and short-name of locations in the report's Location Index.

My work-around solution, to get a displayable Location Index in these reports, is to:
1. Have the Master Location Index sorted: city, county, state, country.
2. Set the Individual or Family Reports Options to your preference of using long or short names. 3. Set the Report's Location Index Options to NOT include location notes NOR lat/long coordinates (these options seem to cause some havoc in the output in my experience). 3. Select in the Report's Location Index Options to "display each locations in reverse order", or not. (Output of the "display each location in reverse order" in the Location Index differs from what's expected with one or the other of the Individual or Family Reports, and generally is in reverse of the actual sort order set in the Master Location Index. - Try view to screen first before printing).

Hope this helps, and hoping for Support to figure this out.

Kind regards,
Dan Bateham.

Problem:
When I enter a location, I always enter as complete a description has I can; e.g., Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, USA. I have selected to have the Short Location name displayed on the Family View, but after entering a location as above, Legacy chooses to enter a short version of its own choosing, e.g., Oskaloosa, IA, in both the Family View screen and the Individual Information screen. This occurs even if I haven't entered a short location name, or if I have, a different short name. In addition, even if I'm not entering a new location, if I open an Individual Information screen in which I've already entered the locations in Ver 5.0, the locations are converted to short names with no action on my part. I suspect that there are some customize selections which didn't convert from 5.0, but I've searched throught the Customize screens and the Location options and haven't figured out the problem.

Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas how to solve it? I'm reluctant to do any work with Ver 6.0 until I figure this out because I don't want all the Location Names changed from the way I want them.

Win XP Home, Pent 3/833 MHz, 20 Gb HD w/ 7 Gb free.

Any help gratefully appreciated.
