Lisa No, you are not missing something. We noticed the same problem when we tried to format text in the description field for an event. It appears that this feature isn't working like it did in V5. When we imported our files from V5 into V6 the formatted text was converted in the notes but not in the description field. The formatted code is displayed in the description field but the text won't print as formatted.
I filed a problem report with Legacy Support yesterday and hope that it can be fixed.
