Hi Bill,
Go to that GGF that you've inserted but doesn't have parents linked to. On the
parents field above this guy, right-click and then:
1) select "Link to Parents", then select the right couple from the list that
comes up.
OR
2) you can select "Add a Father" or "Add a Mother" and then choose "link to an
existing person" in the box that comes up.
If the next generation back is all there with the couple linked to each other, I
would expect the first method to be the easiest, as it will reinstate everyone
from that line in one step.
Hope this helps. :-)

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] How to insert missing family?
I was out of town for awhile and upon my return got back to this
problem. I have no idea what I did wrong but, although I did get my
missing GGF inserted ok, I have now apparently deleted my GGGF and all
previous generations. When I do a search they are all still there
(somewhere) but I can't figure out how to link them back to where they
should be. Maybe it's just me, but Legacy seems to be very unforgiving
when one makes a simple mistake. Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much!

Hi Bill,
As others have said, it's a matter of unlinking and relinking until you have
the right people connected to each other in the right way.
You access the unlink by right clicking on a person in Family View. It's a
good idea to make a backup first incase you get it wrong at your first
attempt. This is especially important if you are unlinking husbands and wives
as it is easy to leave the children and the marriage details with the wrong
person.
When you go to Add a parent or a child to a person (Also available from the
right click menu), you have the option to link to an existing person or add a
new person to the database.
If you are linking a child to parents - make sure you choose Add parents and
not Add father or Add mother or you'll find you've added another marriage to
the father or the mother.
You may have already worked this out,

I submitted this request for help on 9/13 but have had no response so I'll
try again. If this is the wrong forum for this type question, please advise.
In my mother's family the parents of my maternal grandfather were
inadvertently omitted.. Thus, the grandparents of my grandfather _/are shown
as his parents/_. How may I insert the missing parents & family of my
grandfather_ without _affecting all the earlier
families/generations going back to the 1700's? Being a relatively new user of
Legacy I cannot seem to figure it out and would greatly appreciate the
answer.
