This is because checks are only done every few hours. Eventually Legacy would have notified you of the update.

Before upgrading, my "Legacy Home" tab still showed Installed version
6.0.0.64 "You have the latest build". So I wouldn't have known about the
update without this email, or by doing a daily check by pressing the Updates
