For a resource that you've started to use, make a To-Do item from the Resource Guidance Centre and edit the To-Do to indicate where you're up to eg - you've found the GRO reference so just need to order the certificate when you have the spare cash.

Re irrelevant repositories - I think we need a Location of Researcher option to remove irrelevant repositories. People all over the world may be researching English ancestors and libraries all over the world have resources - but we can only physically go to the ones where we are. However, to do that, we may need a two tier repository system. Top-level repositories where the original is held and the other multiple repositories where copies may be seen. Although I'm in Australia and can't visit Archives in London, I like to know that's where the originals are.

Re already having a pay for resource -
Why not just smile every time you get that and look up your CD? - or use the Ignore under the Options button if you've already exhausted the relevant info on the CD?

Cathy

Hello

I have v6 and I think the Research Guidance idea is great! :o)

However, I would also like to ask: is there a way of editing it? I am talking specifically about repositories. For instance, I am English, my ancestry is English, so I really do not need references to repositories such as the Library of Congress, University of Michigan etc. :o)

An example: I possess a CD of the 1861 census for one of my (English) counties of interest. I would like to put myself down as a repository, since I possess the CD, not the company that produced it!

Another example: When I look up the reference in civil registration for a certificate, I often do not have the money to purchase it there and then. So, I keep the registration reference for when I DO have the money. So could I somehow put on the Research Guidance the fact that I have looked on FreeBMD or whatever and got the reference, so I know I have only gone halfway and still need to purchase the certificate?

If there is already a way of doing this editing, could someone please let me know?

Regards

Ros Haywood
