Hi Sid,

I think I understand what you are asking and it may be that the only way to achieve this is to alter the html in the pages directly. This is quite simple to do and with only a few it should not take long.

If you could send me one of the html pages in question saying exactly what changes you want I will be happy to have a look at it and advise you as to how to make the changes.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Website creation - treatment of "Private" individuals

Does anyone have any ideas on this (and please, let's NOTget into the debate here over posting details of living persons to the Internet.)

I have a Legacy-created personal website online, www.sidsalinger.com . The last update was 25 August 2005, created with Legacy 5.0. I now want to update it, including additions and changes that have occurred in my data base since that date, and replacing the "5.0" banner at the bottom of each page with one of the new 6.0 ones. (I use 6.0 Deluxe v.6.0.0.66.)

There are fewer than a dozen names out of my nearly 6,000 that are "Private"; mostly, in a single family. Some are living; some dead. To illustrate what I am trying to accomplish, you can go to my Surname List in the site and click first on "Borovsky". There, click on "Avrom (Abraham)". Then, on his page, try to click on his son, "Benjamin B. Burrows". You can't...there's no link.

Now, go back the Surname List, and click first on "Burrows". There's no "Benjamin B." on the list. But, now click on "Edna".

And, you'll find Edna, and her husband, sons, and grandchild. And, you'll see that she's the daughter of the aforementioned Benjamin (whose name had been Anglicized from Borovsky to Burrows).

Why does this happen? Because, Benjamin had a SECOND daughter...and she (and her husband, children and grandchildren) are all "Private." They don't appear at all.

What I would like would be for the second daughter, her husband and descendants all to appear, but simply as "Private". (This, incidentally, would activate Benjamin B's link.) And, I now seem to have figured that out, by checking, on the "Who" tab in the site, "All records in the entire family file", but leaving "Include Private Indivduals" unchecked I can accomplish that. Each of the "Private" individuals are now included on my web page, but only named as "Private".

So, here's the question:

Even though they're "Private", with no names showing, their Birth and Death dates and places DO show...although Marriages are shown only as "Private". What I'm seeking is a way to eliminate the birth and death dates and places on the web pages, and have them also say "Private"...in the same manner as the Marriages currently appear.

In other words, I would prefer that the Birth and Death dates and places NOT show on the web page, but not lose the fact that there are unrevealed Private individuals. If there is no way of accomplishing this, I may have to stay with the format currently online, where there's no indication of the Private individuals. (And, I DO want the details to show for living persons other than those Private ones.)

On the other hand, if it CAN be done, I'd like to do it prior to transferring the new web page to the Internet. Feel free to reply either on- or off-list.
