I got solved. I had changed my data folder so I could back up with all my
other data. Somehow my prefs reverted back to the original data
folder. Not sure how things got juggled, but I reset the pointers and
everything's OK now.

Sounds like a hosed index to me. Try running database maintenance (File /
File Maintenance / Check/Repair). That's the first thing that I do when
it starts acting random.
