I also only type them using normal (7 bit ASCII) characters. The main reason being that it's not known how other programs will interpret any "unusual" characters or formatting when exporting to a gedcom or a web site. I do however link a graphic of the document so the original can be viewed from within Legacy. I'd type "th" instead of the "y", but wouldn't translate "7er" as it's more than just a handwriting interpretation.
