I've noticed a few trends on this newsgroup. Since I don't read all the
messages, perhaps I mis-state, but it seems to me that
1. As with any software program, people want enhancements -- and of course,
not everyone wants the same sort of enhancement.
2. Some people present their case for an enhancement by criticizing how
Legacy works, often accompanied by disparaging remarks and assertions that
the change would be simple and should be an obvious improvment. Others try
to explain what they want and why, but without the negativity that drags
down the requests made by the those in the first description.
3. Some responses might be interpreted as saying "Legacy is great; the
people who produce it work hard and try to give us what we want; don't
criticize." -- but what they are probably really saying is some veriosn of
"Legacy is great; the people who produce it work hard and try to give us
what we want; be courteous, don't assume what you want suits everyone and
realize that yours is just one of many requests -- and after you've said it
once, let it rest. "
4. And I've noticed on occassion people (myself included) try to campaign
for an enancement by asking people to write in and say "me too" -- but the
people at Legacy ask that we not encourage clogging the list with me-too
votes.
I went to the Legacy site to see how they handled enhancement requests and
they have a form for submission of enhancement requests,. It is under "Help
Center - Make a Suggestion" ( http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp )
That seems a reasonable place to submit enhancement requests, leaving the
list free to discuss how better to use the current program.
BUT... I would like the ability to read the suggestions others have made,
along with an ability to comment. For example, I might comment on one
suggestion by saying "I want this too" or another suggestion by saying "If
you implement this, it will cause me problems because I use this feature in
such and such a way".
So I guess I'm suggesting an enhancement to the suggestion page, but on the
whole, this seems the appropriate place to submit enhancements requests.
