Sure. For 1/2 children, RIGHT click on a number beside the child. One of the options is 1/2 children.
For indication of which children are deceased, go to Customize Format >> Data Format tab and activate the Living Indicator. If it is already on, it is possible the color being used is the same color for deceased, so simply change the color.
