Gary, Management of large updates and replacement program files is part of the experience of using any downloaded software with continuous development. Much easier for customers who have fast Internet service year after year. Much *different* from buying a retail program and using it year after year with perhaps an occasional small patch file that would fit on a floppy.
The 8th public download January 2006 Legacy 6 program file is now 25.8 mb compared to 24.4mb for the first release of Legacy 6 in September 2005. Legacy 3 released 2000 was the last version with separate patch files and it was around 13 mb in early 2001. Legacy 3 had at least six different passwords. No updates at all between Aug 28, 2001 and March 2002 when Legacy 4 was released. Anyone can download the "free" version of Legacy 6 Standard on any computer with an Internet connection and CD-RW or other method to move the program file. The Deluxe version with registration number is required to get the smaller update files from a computer with working Internet service and Legacy installed. I used to update program files for several genealogy programs on a laptop used for demonstrations at local computer group meetings. Sometimes Legacy program files changed and the old build on the laptop would NOT open the newer data file. Some demonstrations were limited to the sample file even though an invited speaker had planned to use a different Legacy data file. -- Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Crull" > Using your suggestion outlined below how would using someone else's > computer with broadband access help.
