Thanks for bringing this up, Elizabeth. I am very interested in the answer
to your question too. If there's not a way to replace the long location
with the short one in a gedcom export, I suggest that it be considered for a
future enhancement.
Dave, to answer your question (maybe): From the Master Location List, go
to Options, then choose Expand/Contract Location Parts. You can try out the
various options, but I highly recommend tagging a couple and testing them
before you apply the change to your whole list. It's my understanding that
the Expansion/Contraction features only work when the location is formatted
with 4 placeholder entries.
The choices are very confusing to me, and they don't help at all because my
short locations are formatted specifically to remove the extra place
holders, thereby nullifying the use of the expand/contract function.
Has anyone found this feature useful in its current state?

Is there any way to export short locations in a GEDCOM or are they always
long locations with place holder commas?

Anyone know how I can "delete" just the county in all my short name
locations? Is this possible?
Edit each "Short Location" entry in your Master Location list.
