OK here is my penny's worth
I operate under THE YOU NEVER KNOW PRINCIPAL. Qualified for a brand-new home
once when I was told not to.
I NEVER believed I would EVER leave FAMILY TREE MAKER and here I sit 3 years
later a TOTAL convert to LEGACY.
I waited several months before I bought LEGACY 6 just so that I could
check out the complaints. In the past 3 years, I have become more and more
proficient in the use of LEGACY I am still discovering new features all of
the time. I am anxious to do a web-page and to use the research assistant,
but right now I am heavy into input of some new data that I expect will top
my files off at over 90,000.
I read the bugs and complaints but if they do not apply to me, I just
go on about my business.
My experience comes from over 40 years of research , use of the other
top 4 or 5 programs many of which do not have mailing lists attached.
PERSONALLY FOR ME I HAVE NEVER SEE A PROGRAM TO MATCH LEGACY 6.

I think this clearly underline the need for separate files for the various
components of the Main Program. Personally I would gladly do without the
Research Assistant as well as the Legacy Home parts of the main program. To
me those are of no use whatsoever and I would like to reiterate that I
believe the same applies to about 50% or more of the user-base of Legacy.

Those were maintenance files, not updates for bug fixes and enhancements.
Although I was using Legacy at that time (it was before I started working
for Millennia) I don't recall what the purpose of the maintenance files
was.
I don't recally uninstalling to use the patch file - I just remember
running
it over the existing program.
The password wasn't changed, but there were several passwords used and
randomly assigned when you downloaded Legacy v3. Now there's just one
password for each version of Legacy.

Legacy 3 released at the end of Feb 2000 was the last version with
*separate* patch files. It had 33 public downloads and several changes of
password. After about 9 updates, it seemed necessary to uninstall, reload
from Legacy 3 program CD and then use the newest patch file.

Unless I'm the only one left in cyberspace boonies with a slow dial-up
connection I still put forth my original point that Legacy updates need
to
have a better delivery option for those who don't have access to hi speed
connections -- either by reason of it just not being available OR
financially prohibitive.
