I think the "Install new hardware" only happens when you plug the device into a computer for the first time. It installs a piece of code that allows it to be recognized after the initial install. I think the "This device could run faster" message is generated if your computer doesn't have a USB 2.0 compliant port. I'm no guru, this is just my reckoning. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can answer this better.
