Geoff,
Your article mentioned test databases with a million linked individuals.
What are the computer requirements for a file that size and can all the
features of Legacy 6 still be used? Several years back, someone estimated
that a project tracing all descendants from an island would eventually have
a million names. Files with more than 100,000 names are rarely mentioned in
any genealogy mailing list. About ten years ago, there was a trend to
collecting a lot of details about the "main" individuals rather than names
of everyone who could be linked.

One Legacy 6 file with a limited number of linked images for individuals
would be easy to plan. Much harder to plan birth and death images when the
online registrations vary from one line to one column to one full page.

How many event images can be linked to a single Legacy database and how many
images can reasonably be kept in a single folder? What size of images do you
recommend for Legacy reports saved as RTF? The sample file has variable size
images. For a new Legacy project, I would start with a set of matching size
rectangular pictures of individuals -- faces rather than a mix of portraits
and snapshots.

Software companies tell their customers how to use specific features in a
genealogy program but very little about planning a family book or web site
with pictures. I would rather have one family file for each potential book
(or web site) than create a temp file to get the "wanted" individuals in a
word processor report that requires a lot of editing. -- Elizabeth
