Thank you, John; even today I was approaching Legacy with a large amount of trepidation and the back of my mind telling me to sneak on back to the good ol' familiar PAF --- so I very much appreciate your input. I shall, pretzel in hand, plod on with Legacy. I am sure, without this group, I'd not be saying this...

Thank you again.

Kate
Hopefully you can go easy on the pretzels in the future Kate because...
What you experienced was a bug in Legacy. The bug is that sometimes
.usr files get corrupted and can result in such bizarre behavior. You
didn't
do anything wrong. In fact a good rule for software design is that no
combination of user inputs (good or bad) should cause program hangs.
Good inputs should result in expected behavior, such as entering data
or generating a report etc. Bad inputs should be trapped by the program
and then cause an appropriate error message or some other behavior that
makes sense to the user.

I certainly did not know what the cause of this particular bug was, as
Dennis
did, but it was pretty obvious to me that it was some kind of bug in Legacy.
Not only would it be good for the programmers to figure out why the .usr
files get corrupted, but since the .usr files clearly get regenerated by the
program
when they are deleted, it seems to me that alternative method of tracking
the
data in this particular .usr file could be used.

                                                                        jr
