Hi Tracy

I just add them as unlinked individuals until I find the direct link. I also tag then using tag 9 so I can find them again with ease.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Adding grandchildren/great grandchildren when unsure of their parents

Hi Everyone
Thanks to all those who respond to the queries on this list, its been
a great help for me in learning how to use Legacy. I've got a new
query that I hope others can help me with.

I've started to research death/funeral notices in newspapers and I'm
finding information on children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
of the deceased in the notice. Unfortunately, I don't often have the
details of which child owns which grandchild or great grandchild. How
do others enter these people into their records?

I've tried noting that their names are listed in Grandparent A's death
notice in an event. I've also tried a child placeholder under the
couple, eg a child named "? Grandchildren of A and B" with a note in
the source details "unsure of parentage for grandchildren of A and B",
then add the list of grandchildren, and repeat the process for great
grandchildren. So the descendent list would look something like this:

Grandparent A
+Grandparent B
 Child 1
 Child 2
 ? Grandchildren of A and B
     Grandchild 1
     Grandchild 2
     ? Great grandchildren of A and B

What ways do other people use in these types of situations?
Cheers
Tracy
