Thanks to everyone who provided comments about box charts. I agree with Julie that Legacy's graphical output could use some attention. Box Charts, it seems to me, should be one of the basic parts of a genealogy program and I will make that suggestion.
I am working on a particularly complex lineage problem, and needed to have a box chart drawing of the family to help sort them out in my mind, so I took Ann's suggestion and gedcomed to FTM and easily produced just what I needed. I have sent a suggestion to Legacy that box charts would be a nice improvement, and it is apparent that many of us would use that feature.
