I will forward the email that I sent earlier to another list member.

This is very similar to the system I use which I described earlier.
There are some minor differences but generally, the concept is the
same.
I sent detailed information about it to someone on the list just last
night. The offer is still available to anyone else.

Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Filing Systems
Hi,
The filling system I use was given to me by Elizabeth Kohler, the
leader
of
the Sacramento, CA Users Group. Until then, I had planned to use the
MRIN
system, but found her system much easier to use, and works better with
Legacy's File ID field.
First you assign a sequential number to each source you. Then you use
keep
them in a spread-sheet. (Start with number 1)
I enter my sources using Geoff Rasmussen's method of detailing the
source
name for the "Place Names". Most of your documents are related to a
place;
i.e., vital records, histories, censuses, etc.
For Surname documents, i.e., family genealogy, histories, I start the
Source
Name with the SURNAME (in Caps) followed by other defining stuff in
the
"Source Name" field of the Source definition window.
Photographs can be handled the same way, i.e., a sequential numbering
system.
This system is very close that the Family History Library uses. They
have a
lot more experience in filing source documents than I, and I like the
simplicity of the system.
Legacy, marginally supports this records numbering system, and hope
they
will consider adding editing tools so that you don't need to keep a
spread-sheet to fully index a search the documents.
I know this is a very brief description, and can supply more details
to
those who are interested?
