Hi Stephen, you probably remember me from the TNG list postings. My
Legacy-based web site got up just before the end of last year. Like you, it
took a little while, but after a couple of months I had over 14,000 links.
Today I have a pitiful 39!
Interestingly, my site, www.roots2buds.net only includes (right now) a
couple of actual pages and then it shows (for example):
www.roots2buds.net/headstones.php?country=United+S... Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/anniversaries.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/browsedocs.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/whatsnew.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/browserepos.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/browseheadstones.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/browsedocs.php?tngprint=1 Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/suggest.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/reports.php?tngprint=1 Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/browsephotos.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/changelanguage.php Similar pages
www.roots2buds.net/descend.php?personID=I2765&... Similar pages
etc...
I am as disappointed as you must be at Google's lack of indexing (despite
heavy bot crawling) and I would like to find a solution. It's sad to have
good (at least very well-sourced) data out there and not to be able to share
it!
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help or if you find anything we
can test out.
Thanks for posting,
Gail Rich Nestor

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Recent Legacy Genealogy Web Sites?
Sorry, I didn't mean to be cryptic. What I'm looking into is that it
looks like a number of us who have started using TNG in the last
several months are not being included in the Google index. Our sites
are being crawled quite frequently but nothing is showing up in the
Google listing for our sites. This effect only came into play in the
last several months. Sites that have been in service for over 1 year
don't seem to have this problem.
My particular site was in service over a year ago and was fully
indexed. However, after a problem with a hosting company, I obtained a
new URL and a new hosting company. After my site was back in service
with the new URL the site was quickly crawled by the Google bot and
over 17,000 pages were displayed in the Google index. Since the
initial indexing in Feb. of this year the number of pages from my site
that can be found in the Google index has been gradually decreasing.
Currently only about 400 pages are indexed. If you wish to view my
site it is at http://winslowtree.com. The robots.txt file restricts
bots from all but the pages created by the getperson.php and a few
others, the same is true of the meta tags.
I have been trying to determine if Google has implemented something
new in their indexing algorithm that might not like the
receptive/duplicate nature of the information presented by the TNG
software. Since the Legacy html pages contain few words other than the
unique information about the individual being displayed, it seemed to
be a good comparison.
If anyone has put up a Legacy generated site in the last 6 months I
would like a link to their site so I can see how well Google has
indexed the site.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Srephen,
It is not clear from your message whther you are referring to the genral
Google index or your site index by Google. If the former their indexing is
being done but perhaps more slowly than in the past. Some 3 months ago I
included a Google site search on my web pages and it still han't been
indexed 6 weeks after putting it on my site and only had the pages which
it
had already indexed for its general pages available. I switched to
FreeFind
where one asks them to do a site search which they do there and then.
