I have five used SATA drives. All have been reformatted and block scanned with Drive Genius 3 and all cleared the scan with no bad blocks.

These run at 10K rpm and are great for start-up drives and for scratch disk. This is how I used them. Before moving to SSD drives, these were the fastest drives I have ever worked with.
