Dear swappers, I have for sale a Data Robotics Drobo DR04D-D array for sale in good working condition. It can be sold “disk free”, or with two Seagate 3 TB drives, zeroed and error free. Over the device’s lifetime I have used 2 TB drives, 3 TB drives, and finally a mix including 5 TB (allowed by a firmware update). This Drobo supports USB 2.0 and 3.0, Firewire 800, and e-SATA. This model is for direct attachment to a host computer; it is not a NAS. I had it on a Mac Pro running OS X Server, and used it to back up Photos, iTunes, Time Machine, etc. Looking at the original instructions, I think I have everything: Drobo, power supply, all cables, CDs, booklets, decorative insert box, etc. It will ship in the original Data Robotics shipping box with the original protective inserts. If you utilize four 3TB drives and establish single-drive redundancy, you will get 8.17 TB of protected capacity (https://www.drobo.com/storage-products/capacity-calculator/).
Drobos are better than a single, large drive because of the easy-to-use failure protection. If either SMART errors are logged or in case of a sudden and complete disk failure. the Drobo goes into protection mode. It will begin to redistribute the protected data to the remaining space. You do not lose access to your files during this process. This redistribution can take a couple of days if the array has a large amount of data, so be patient. When the process is over, you can pop in a new drive. Then the Drobo reverses the process and redistributes the data over all four disks in order to re-establish the protection. It saved my bacon twice. Here’s a contemporaneous review: https://www.channelpronetwork.com/review/drobo-dro4d-d-4-bay-storage-review. I liked it so much that I bought two new Drobo 5D3 units and synchronize them over the internet between home and office. The drive is pretty quiet when used with a Mac Pro; you might just notice it on a Mac mini. I am asking $99 shipped CONUS without drives. We can talk about the two 3TB drives if you want them at, say, $35 apiece. Mike Lincoln Bainbridge Island WA 98110 -- You received this message because you are a member of the LEM Swap group.
